Spring is here, and there is no better way to enjoy the change in seasons than hosting a fiesta in the garden. A simple table for a salsa bar, beautiful cookies, and water infused with fruit and herbs is a great start to a fun evening with friends.
One of my favorite tips for any party is to shop your grocery store looking for cans to use as floral containers to match your theme. Empty the cans, fill them full of seasonal blooms, and add a succulent arrangement for the perfect centerpiece of fresh flowers.
For the salsa bar, serve Pico de Gallo, cantaloupe salsa and homemade guacamole (recipe below). Make sure you have plenty of chips for these delicious dips. Let your serving containers be part of your party décor by choosing brightly colored containers with visual interest.
My favorite DIY from the party were my cactus cookies! I ordered a cactus cookie cutter as well as edible fondant succulents. I made sugar cookies, iced them using pre-packaged cookie icing from the grocery store, and added the succulent to the icing before it dried. Displaying them on a fun polka dot plate really showcases how cute these cookies are.
It’s always fun to have a signature drink, so in keeping with my Mexican fiesta theme I served Mexican Cowboys (recipe below). Don’t forget a small favor for your guests. A simple kraft box filled with gumballs, lime lollipops, wax mustaches and sealed with a party flag sticker made a festive favor to give!
1 package of guacamole seasonings
Red Onion, diced
Salt & Pepper to taste
Follow the instructions on the seasoning packet to combine the avocados and seasonings. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. Use as much or as little as you like. Let refrigerate overnight or for a minimum of 1 hour. Enjoy!
Mexican Cowboys (Signature Drink)
Citrus Flavored Vodka
Lime Wedges for garnish
Place ice in your cup. Add one shot of citrus-flavored vodka. Fill with lemonade and add one-to-two fresh jalapeño slices (be careful…the seeds are hot!). Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
